Understanding the Early Years Curriculum at Yarrow Nursery, Euxton 

The Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum is designed around how young children naturally learn – through play, exploration, and meaningful interactions. It recognizes that these early years are crucial for building the foundations your child needs for future learning and life. 

The EYFS is structured around seven key areas of learning, and at Yarrow Nursery, we weave all of these into your child's daily experiences:

Communication and Language – Every interaction matters. Whether your child is chatting with their key person during snack time, singing nursery rhymes, or telling us about their weekend, we're nurturing their ability to listen, understand, and express themselves. Physical Development – This is where our wonderful outdoor space really comes into its own. Children develop both gross motor skills (running, climbing, balancing) and fine motor skills (holding pencils, using scissors, manipulating small objects). Personal, Social and Emotional Development – Learning to share, take turns, manage feelings, and build friendships are essential life skills. Understanding the World – Children are natural scientists and explorers. Whether they're investigating bugs in our outdoor area, talking about their families, or exploring different materials, we encourage curiosity about the world around them.

Expressive Arts and Design – Creativity flourishes when children have the freedom to explore. From painting and drawing to role-play and music, we provide rich opportunities for children to express themselves and use their imagination.
