Welcome back and happy New Year!
We hope that you had a good Christmas holiday.
Thank you!
All the staff would like to say a big thank you for all the Christmas presents which were bought in, they were very much appreciated.
Christmas sing a long
Many thanks for joining the staff and children at the Christmas sing a long last term. The children had a lovely time and really enjoyed it!
Raffle and hamper
Thank you for supporting us with our raffle and hamper this year. £220.00 was raised which has been used to buy some new resources for nursery such as books, musical instruments and a new construction set.

Unclaimed raffle price
We still have one unclaimed raffle price which is a green ticket number 206.The name on the ticket is Drewery.

The Outdoor Area
We are very hardy at Yarrow Valley and children are able to play outside all day if they wish. Please could you provide suitable clothes for the children to wear in order to stay warm. Could you also make sure your child’s clothing is labeled. This helps tremendously when things get muddled!
Topics
The children are again involved in the planning this term and we are using a system called the talking tub, this encourages the children to come forward with their interests and suggestions in the activities planned in nursery. A talking tub book will be put in place for you to view which contains ideas and photos of your children please feel free to have a look!
This term our topic is People who help us. For example doctors, firemen, builders, hairdressers, dentist etc. We are hoping to have some visitors come in to nursery to extend the knowledge of certain professions of people who help us.
If you have any equipment which we may find of use for our role play please speak to a member of staff. Thank you for your help.

Half term Holiday club
We are running a holiday club over the half term, Monday 13th -Friday 17th of February.
Miss Dooley will be there along with staff from the after school club. Please fill in the request sheet at the end of the newsletter if you would like to book a place for your child.

Self registration
Please continue to help your child self register as usual.  The name board is in the corridor at the entrance to the play room.  Focus on the beginning and end letters and the general overall shape of the word to help the children find them.  Please also help the children to find their own coat pegs when you arrive.
Important reminders
We have some children in nursery at the moment that have serious allergies.  Please keep this in mind when preparing packed lunches as cross contamination can potentially be very dangerous.  Nuts in particular should be avoided.
Any Changes?
Please let us know of any changes of address, mobile phone numbers etc. so that we can update our records. If you haven’t already done so, could you let us have your e-mail address. We think this would be a more efficient way of sending you our newsletter in the future.
Could you also let us have a password to be used if anyone other than yourselves collect your children. We find that this can be a good way to avoid worries at pick up time.
Resources
If anyone has access to a supply of paper or card of any description or any other craft resources, we would be very grateful for any donations. This term we are concentrating on cold colours, so any white, silver or blue materials would be wonderful.
Fees
All children are entitled to five free sessions a week from the term after their third birthday.  Please speak to Mrs. McManus if you don’t think you are getting your full entitlement.
Fees are payable the first session that your child is in nursery for the whole of that week, month or half term.  Please help us to keep our costs down by either paying in cash or if you are writing a cheque, please try and pay at least a month at a time. (Cheques made payable to Yarrow)  This is because we are charged by the bank for every cheque that we pay in.

Please note that any missed sessions must be paid for.
Lunches
If you would like any items from your child’s lunch box refrigerating please write on their name and date and hand it to a member of staff.

Welcome back! We hope that you had a lovely Summer break.

The outdoor area

Please remember that the children are able to choose to play outside all day if they want to. Our weather of course is unpredictable ,also the children are able to experience our digging pit, however at times this can get a little messy so wellies may be a must on some days !
It is a great help to the staff if all coats and wellies have the children’s names on.

Topics
The topic this half term is ‘Ourselves’. We will be thinking about the way we look, and how our bodies work. We are hoping in particular to think about keeping healthy.

Changing sessions
We do understand that sometimes you may need to change the days/sessions for your child due to work commitments etc. If you could please inform Mrs McMannus of these changes at the half term breaks. We do understand that occasionally something will crop up and a session change is needed during the week, we will do our utmost to try and accommodate this.

Lending library
We are now pleased to offer you a lending library of books for both children and adults. These can be found on the blue trolley which is kept near the coat pegs. Please feel free to have a look ! If you would like to borrow any books please see Mrs Jackson.

Change of clothes

During the session your child may need a change of clothes due to playing in the water, outside etc. If you could please provide a change of clothing in a named bag and leave it on your child’s coat peg this would be very helpful !

Balshaw lane schools reading garden.
Balshaw lane school has a lovely reading garden which is situated near the tarmac path leading to nursery, we have been asked by school to remind nursery parents that this is for school use only and please could we ask nursery children not to play in the garden when travelling to and from nursery. Thank you for your co operation.
Transition period.
To help with the transition period staff from Yarrow Nursery have visited the children in the session as a familiar face and to help the children settle in. We feel that this has worked really well and hope that you agree!
We are pleased to see that all the children seemed to have settled  into the preschool Nursery really well and are having lots of fun !
